Introduction to Types of Hats

On the runway, fashion models use hats to complement their outfits and choose corresponding shoes and accessories to enhance the overall look. As a creative accessory, hats can show the wearer's taste. They are an indispensable fashion item and a necessary accessory, and a tool in our daily lives.

In this article, we will introduce 36 different types of hats and how to choose them.

1. Baseball Cap

In the 1860s, the Brooklyn Excelsiors wore baseball caps, which then became popular. Standard baseball caps are more suitable for baseball games or casual wear. The crown is composed of multiple panels, the most common being 6, 5, and 7 panels, with the front two panels stiffened, so the cap retains its shape even when not worn.

2. Snapback Cap

A snapback cap is an adjustable flat brim baseball cap. This type of cap became synonymous with hip hop in the early 90s and continues to be popular among millennials and Gen Z.

3. Dad Hat

There are many types and styles of baseball caps. One fashionable variation is the "dad hat," named because it was mostly worn by dads. When it became a fashion accessory, everyone started wearing it. The dad hat has a larger, softer, and more comfortable crown, giving it a classic relaxed or casual appearance. Unlike standard baseball caps, its crown lacks structure.

4. Trucker Hat

This is a baseball cap with a mesh back, worn by celebrities such as Ashton Kutcher, Britney Spears, and Justin Timberlake. Trucker hats are not as popular now but could see a resurgence. The mesh back panel makes them highly breathable. The front panel has structure and is slightly raised.

5. Visor Cap

Tennis stars, golfers, and volleyball players love wearing visors. Initially designed for outdoor sports.

6. Beanie

Whether your beanie is cuffed, slouchy, or has a pom-pom on top, these hats are essential for cold weather.

7. Trapper Hat

If you want a sturdy, rugged hat, look for a trapper hat! This style is worn by pioneers and mountaineers while hiking in regions like the Appalachian Mountains. During World War I, pilots also wore this hat to protect against the biting cold, hence it is also called a "pilot hat."

8. Top Hat

In the 18th century, upper-class men wore high top hats. These gentlemen, known as "dandies," wore top hats, white ties, and long formal coats. Nowadays, anyone can wear a top hat, though they are usually part of a costume or worn on very grand occasions.

9. Fedora Hat

A fedora is a shallow crown felt hat; usually, the brim width is 5 to 12 cm, which can be rolled back or be flat. The wider the brim, the more glamorous the wearer appears. The classic way to wear a fedora is to wear it down a little, covering most of the forehead. We recommend keeping a distance of 1.5 cm between the hat and the eyebrows. Nowadays, it is fashionable to wear the fedora slightly tilted on the forehead. This hat's inspiration comes from a French play called <Fédora>. In this movie, a princess named Fedora wore a stylish soft-brimmed hat.

10. Trilby Hat

The trilby hat is a type of felt hat with a shorter brim, no more than 3-4 cm, sloping downward at the front and curling up at the back. It became fashionable in the 50s when many musicians wore trilby hats during performances. To this day, it is still considered a hat style cherished within the arts and creative fields.

11. Pork Pie Hat

The pork pie hat is a telescoping flat-topped hat named after a famous British pastry. It resembles a shallow crown felt hat but with a rounded crown instead of an indented one. It became popular again thanks to Walter White's iconic look in "Breaking Bad."

12. Homburg Hat

This hat has a dented crown and became popular among gangsters in the 1920s. It belongs to the fedora family and is often associated with luxury. In fact, the homburg was initially worn by the British king, and it was also favored by Dwight D. Eisenhower and Winston Churchill.

13. Beret

In the Renaissance, berets were worn only by peasants and the poor. Starting from these humble origins, the beret has now become popular with fashionistas, revolutionaries, and the military.

14. Cloche Hat

In 1908, a milliner named Caroline Reboux invented this style of hat and called them "cloche hats." This is a fitting name since these hats have a charming bell shape and are warm and comfortable to wear.

15. Newsboy Cap

Before the internet, people had to pick up a newspaper to get the latest gossip. Newsboys would hand out these papers
